Bi-Weekly Workspace Organization and Cleaning
Keep your shop, office, or warehouse organized so you can find things and work efficiently. A clean workspace prevents accidents, impresses customers, and saves time hunting for tools and paperwork.
- Organize Tool and Supply StoragePut everything back where it belongs so you can find it next time. Organized storage saves hours of searching and prevents buying duplicates of stuff you already own.
- Return Tools to Proper SpotsWalk around and grab any tools lying on benches or floors and put them back in their designated storage. Tools left out get lost, damaged, or stolen.
- Sort and Label Storage BinsGo through storage bins and make sure similar items are together. Label containers clearly so anyone can find what they need without opening every box.
- Reorganize ShelvingPut heavy items on lower shelves and frequently-used items at easy-to-reach heights. Good organization means less bending, reaching, and dropping things.
- Clear Out Broken ItemsRemove broken tools, damaged materials, or trash taking up valuable storage space. Either fix it, toss it, or donate it—don't let it sit there forever.
- Return Tools to Proper Spots
- Clean Work Surfaces and FloorsGet rid of dirt, dust, and debris that makes the workspace messy and unsafe. Regular cleaning prevents slip hazards and keeps equipment from getting gummed up.
- Clear Off WorkbenchesRemove everything from workbenches and wipe them down. A clean work surface gives you room to actually work and prevents losing small parts in clutter.
- Sweep or Vacuum FloorsSweep the entire floor to remove sawdust, metal shavings, dirt, or other debris. Clean floors prevent slips and look professional when customers visit.
- Wipe Down EquipmentClean dust and grime off machinery and equipment with appropriate cleaners. Regular cleaning prevents buildup that damages equipment and keeps it running smoothly.
- Empty All TrashTake out all garbage and recycling, and replace liners. Full trash bins attract pests and create fire hazards from accumulating flammable waste.
- Clear Off Workbenches
- Sort and File PaperworkOrganize invoices, receipts, and documents so you can find them when needed. Lost paperwork costs you money during tax time or when customers dispute charges.
- File Recent InvoicesTake all customer invoices from the past two weeks and file them in order by date or customer name. Organized invoices make it easy to track who owes what.
- Organize ReceiptsGather all receipts for business purchases and either scan them or file them in folders by month. You need these receipts for taxes and expense tracking.
- Clear Paper ClutterGo through stacks of paper on desks and sort them into keep, file, or trash. Most of that pile is probably junk you don't need anymore.
- Update Job FilesMake sure each active job has a file with contracts, notes, and documents in one place. Organized job files prevent losing important information or missing details.
- File Recent Invoices
- Check and Restock SuppliesMake sure you have basic supplies on hand so work doesn't stop while someone runs to the store. Keeping supplies stocked prevents workflow interruptions.
- Count Office SuppliesCheck stock of pens, paper, forms, envelopes, and other office supplies you use regularly. Make a list of anything running low to order this week.
- Check Cleaning SuppliesVerify you have enough cleaning products, paper towels, trash bags, and hand soap. Running out of basics is annoying and leaves the place dirty.
- Verify Safety SuppliesCheck that you have enough gloves, masks, safety glasses, or other consumable safety gear. Employees need this stuff to work safely every day.
- Restock Break RoomMake sure the break room has coffee, water, cups, and whatever else you provide. Taking care of basic needs keeps your team happy and productive.
- Count Office Supplies
- Maintain Equipment and MachineryDo basic maintenance on shop equipment to keep it running properly. Quick regular maintenance prevents major breakdowns that shut down work for days.
- Clean Equipment FiltersCheck and clean or replace filters on air compressors, dust collectors, or HVAC equipment. Dirty filters reduce performance and burn out motors faster.
- Lubricate Moving PartsPut oil or grease on equipment that needs regular lubrication per the manufacturer's instructions. Proper lubrication prevents parts from seizing up or wearing out.
- Check for Loose HardwareTighten any loose bolts, screws, or fittings on machinery and equipment. Vibration loosens hardware over time, which leads to damage or accidents.
- Test Equipment FunctionRun each piece of machinery briefly to make sure it's working normally. Catching problems early means fixing them before they cause bigger damage.
